Behavioural Change and Personal Development Programmes
One of my passions is helping people and businesses create and manage positive, measurable Behavioural Change along with lasting, better relationships and performance in both business and their lives so they become more successful, healthier and happier without all the pain and baggage from the past.

NLP and CBT for Life!
NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Training) work in every context of our lives.
In the last 30 years it has become the core of my work and of my life. I pioneered its use in helping people of all ages to change their lives for the better.

Anger, Crisis & Stress Management
Everywhere we go today people are apparently getting more and more stressed and being less and less effective in their work and their lives. When we get out of balance like this, many things suffer including our work and personal relationships…and these in turn affect our ability to generate profitable relationships for the future.

GET IN TOUCH“Marilyn has worked with Capital across a wide range of issues, including problem solving, NLP training, team building, mentoring and coaching. We’ve tackled some big issues, but also paid attention to the fine detail, understanding the importance of the individual and wellbeing in building organisational success. As a consequence of a thorough and varied approach, I feel that we’re tighter, brighter and more empathetic; a team better equipped to deal with the unpredictable business conditions of the 21stcentury. This has been evidenced in our bottom line results. I would recommend Marilyn’s input and guidance to everyone except our competitors.”

Moving on from the past whether in business or from our daily lives can be hard. So many times I’ve heard someone say “I’m stuck in this job, business, unhappy relationship and can’t seem to move on…it’s wrecking my life. What can I do?”
There’s no one answer fits everyone which is why I make sure I really listen to my clients and establish what they want and what they need.
Often those two things can be quite different! And sometimes they don’t realise it until we have a chat!
Example….. I was at a prestigious event for the top 300 Business Men in Mexico a while ago and a young man was telling me how unhappy he was with his personal relationship and his job. As I listened it was clear that the problems with both things were constantly on his mind and making him highly stressed and depressed.
He knew what he didn’t want and had no idea what he really wanted from either situation.
We sat down and scribbled through an exercise on the back of a menu card so he could describe what he wanted by focussing on the opposite of what he didn’t want. Soon he was chuckling and that was the turning point. I asked what one thing if he focussed on it would make the biggest difference to his life.
We listed what he wanted from a relationship and a job and I reminded him about a presupposition of NLP…”You get what you focus on” so he agreed to decide and focus on that one thing he wanted every day and act accordingly.
I told him “keep focusing on how unhappy you are and your brain says “OK if that’s what you want let’s have some more of it!”. It’s like when you decide to buy a new red car and suddenly your RAS (Reticular Activating System) wakes up and you notice lots of red cars!”
Of course we kept in touch, Behavioural Change can be lonely.
3 months later he had a new job where he is much more productive, successful and happier and his partner, noticing how he had changed, had also changed…. funnily enough his partner had been unhappy too but they hadn’t really communicated. They are both working on their personal development programmes and being better communicators.
Change the one thing that matters and everything changes!
“The training we received will always act as a benchmark and was a truly effective way of discovering better methods for personal, business and cultural communication”

It works, if you choose to use it, ethically and easily in every area of your life. It works in relationships with yourself, with others, in business, at home, in the fields of sport, recreation and leisure. In other words it gives you choices you would never normally have had and skills with which to change your life for the better.
It began when I was introduced to NLP by Liz and Ian Newton and I was captivated by its accessibility to all ages. In fact Irene, my Mum, achieved her NLP Diploma at the age of 78, one of the more senior delegates on her course! I remember driving her to the first weekend when she decided halfway there she was too old and lacking in self confidence to join the group of ‘new people’ and wanted to go home instead. I refused to listen.
At lunchtime on the first day I returned with sandwiches for us. When I walked into the training room she was nowhere to be found. Liz laughed and said “Renie is down the local pub with the rest of her group, she’s having a great time and they’ve found she is a delightful, strong force to be reckoned with!” and how they applauded her when she walked up to receive her Certificate. Needless to say it now has pride of place in my Office.
Mum used her new skills with glee, especially when she was Skip for the local Indoor Bowls Club! It did her self-confidence the world of good and I have treasured memories of her on a weekend Pensioners holiday break when there was a band playing at the hotel and no one else was dancing. (She had always loved dancing with my Dad and in her youth was an acclaimed Charleston and Black Bottom Ballroom dancer.) Instead of sitting and complaining, she wandered off, found a broom and returned to the dance floor to dance alone with it, then she ditched the broom and persuaded a gentleman to dance with her, sent him off to get a new partner and in the end almost all the group were happily dancing.

I have seen it transform lives so many times, save relationships and strengthen others and I love what I do. It has given me the chance to study with and learn from many models of excellence, both famous, such as Sue Knight, Tony Robbins, Christine Padesky, Dr Maxwell Malz, Jean-Christophe Novelli, and not so famous, such as an amazing man who although blind, led walkers on outings through forests and up hills in South Wales, and a Mexican Shaman who not only worked with the Dalai Lama, the Rolling Stones and other world leaders but is building a Holistic Health retreat in the countryside of New Mexico.
I coach many leaders in business and life. Age, nationality and ability or disability is no barrier to NLP and CBT. And the wonderful thing is I learn from them all, it becomes a reciprocal process of learning!

I am very happy to provide this reference for Marilyn Godfrey in connection with the Senior Team development work she has delivered for Seren Group. Finding the right person to support such an important team development process is a difficult task and I am delighted we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Marilyn.
Marilyn’s approach to designing the programme was inclusive and very much took on board what we needed and wanted. As a result, the programme which emerged was exactly tailored to out objectives. She supported the delivery of this programme with professionalism, insight and flexibility, giving us the space to spend time in the ways we found most valuable.
In terms of the objectives we set ourselves at the start, the conclusion of the whole team was that we made significant progress and Marilyn’s role contributed to this in no small part. She shared her expertise in areas such as NLP in a way which made complex models easy for us to understand and use in the business. We all left with a few more tricks up our sleeve!

I met Marilyn through my position as Chair of British Swimming. Since then she has become a good friend and source of advice.
I have been impressed with her professional work in sports medicine and particularly as a coach where she has had considerable success with clients in the public and private sectors, from owner-managers through executives in multi-national corporations.
I find her a sensitive, caring and person and a most professional coach/counsellor with great insight into the root causes of challenges faced by individuals, especially in these difficult economic times
On a personal note, as well as being a dear friend, she has led me to address a number of issues with regard to my portfolio of work and life:work balance. Part of the outcome of our conversations has undoubtedly enabled me to deal with the special challenge of chairing British Swimming at one of the most important times in is history.
I would not hesitate to recommend Marilyn to any client organisation.
